🔷 Swift has launched a blockchain-based shared ledger for initial use, with 17 banks across six continents preparing to pilot live cross-border transactions using tokenised deposits. The ledger will provide an orchestration layer between bank-issued digital money, enabling 24/7 transfers before final settlement through existing payment systems.

Appold View: Swift's move into live bank pilots is a meaningful development for tokenised deposits and cross-border payments. The model is notable for using DLT to improve interoperability and settlement efficiency while allowing banks to retain established compliance, liquidity and risk-management frameworks.

🔷 Circle has received final approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish Circle National Trust, a federally regulated national trust bank. The entity will initially provide digital-asset custody services to Circle and its affiliates, with the potential to serve selected institutional clients and assume responsibility for managing USDC reserves in the future.

Appold View: The approval is strategically important for Circle as competition in regulated stablecoins intensifies and its share price remains under pressure. By bringing custody and, over time, USDC reserve management within an OCC-supervised framework, the charter should strengthen institutional confidence.

🔷 UBS has completed its first B2B cross-border payments using stablecoin infrastructure provided by Merge. The pilot gives UBS operational experience in connecting corporate clients to public stablecoin networks without relying on a UBS-issued stablecoin, while Merge provides the underlying connectivity between the bank and those networks.

Appold View: The partnership gives UBS a low-risk route to test public stablecoin rails while retaining control of the client relationship, compliance and fiat banking. Alongside UBS Digital Cash and bank-led stablecoin initiatives, it points to a multi-rail strategy. Longer term, the question is whether UBS internalises orchestration or relies on external providers for reach and interoperability.

🔷 Aave Labs has launched Stable Vaults, an embedded DeFi yield solution that enables fintechs, wallets and payment platforms to offer stablecoin-based returns without developing or managing the underlying infrastructure. Participating firms can configure supported assets, yield strategies and customer rates, while the vault automates liquidity management, accounting, rebalancing and cross-chain allocation.

Appold View: Stable Vaults extend Aave from a DeFi liquidity protocol into an infrastructure provider for embedded products. Converting variable on-chain returns into a stable customer proposition could broaden distribution, though institutional adoption hinges on Aave strengthening governance and risk controls with transparency around the strategies.
